Privacy Policy

Effective October 19, 2026

Become keeps your habit data private to your account, uses it only to run the app and its AI coach, and never sells it or shows ads.

Become is a habit-tracking app run by Darren Kirkham ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the Become app and its services collect, how it is used, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Become iPhone app, including test versions distributed through TestFlight.

Information we collect

We collect only what you enter into Become and what the app needs to work.

How we use your information

We use your information only to provide Become to you:

We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to build profiles for anyone else.

Service providers we use

A few companies process information on our behalf to run Become. Each receives only what it needs for its job.

ProviderWhat it does for BecomeWhat it receives
SupabaseHosts accounts, the database and the AI coach's server code (United States)Everything listed above
AnthropicIts Claude AI model writes your coaching messagesA summary of your habit statistics (see AI coaching below); never your email or password
ResendDelivers password-reset and email-change emailsYour email address and the one-time code
ExpoRelays coach notifications to AppleYour device push token and the notification's title and text
AppleDelivers notifications to your iPhone, and distributes the app through TestFlight and the App StoreYour device push token and notification content; TestFlight shares its own usage and crash data with us under Apple's policy

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.

AI coaching

Become's coach is written by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. When the coach runs, our server works out statistics from your check-ins and sends Claude a short summary containing:

The summary never includes your email address, password, or account ID. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models by default. The AI's suggestions are general encouragement, not medical, mental-health or professional advice.

You can turn the coach off at any time in Settings → AI Coach. While it is off, no summaries are sent and no new coach messages are written.

Security

Information travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and is encrypted when stored. Database rules restrict every account to its own data, so one user can never read or change another user's habits, check-ins, settings or coach messages. A copy of your data is also kept on your phone so the app works offline; signing out removes it from that phone.

No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.

Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your information for as long as you have an account.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, habits, check-ins, settings, coach messages and push tokens from our database straight away. Copies may remain for a short time in routine backups and in our providers' logs before they are overwritten.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example, California or the European Union), you may have further rights to access, correct, delete or move your information, or to object to how it's used. Contact us to exercise them.

Children

Become is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
